Normals

Originally written 1/29/2016. I still have my “armor”, but it’s okay. It’s slowly coming off, in the way it should.

What inner workings have emerged
a consistent, steady stream
of words and feelings strong and firm;
feels like a stranger she’s making

Yet here she is, the same old size
Not reconciled to herself
It slowly goes, then comes again
like fine wine sitting on a shelf

It is comfort, security, armor still
She respects what it’s trying to prove
But the epic battles of decades chill
She’s learning now what ‘normals’ do.
