Betrayer

“Charyou Tree!”
they shouted,
mouths bearing wrath,
sordid greed for blood,
a reaping, a girl,
her father already taken, betrayed by one who should protect her,
if she had love, love like a mother,
but she threw first ash, ashes to burn her.

Dark and intense. I love the allusion to Stephen King’s Dark Tower!
