I started writing poems when I was young, but nothing I would call a true hobby.
I would write about God, religion, prayer, overcoming the flesh, all with the idea that I was on a journey toward salvation.
Later, after difficult growth and trauma, I started writing poems for my own sanity; not to preach or motivate myself in spiritual things, but to accept my voice as it was and is, no matter the grit.
Today marks my 500th entry. Sometimes I read my past ones and wonder how those words made it out onto the page. I still haven’t fully accepted my voice, but my own words and yours have helped me in ways I do not fully understand.
Words unspoken are words in cages, and though their electricity may cause fires and outages, they also spark the light of the soul in all their raw glory.
Thank you for being on this journey with me, a journey toward freedom and self-acceptance.
